Mayor Addresses Property Investors

“Never trust a share broker or a car salesman, they’re all out to make money” will be one of Grey District Mayor and owner of a car sales yard, Tony Kokshoorn’s tongue in cheek messages to members of the West Coast Property Investors’ Association evening meeting on 3 rd October.

As guest speaker, the Mayor will share his own investment journey, the ups and downs as he developed his portfolio that includes the Greymouth Evening Star and Hokitika Guardian, commercial property in downtown Greymouth and a significant stake in the sharemarket.

Mayor Kokshoorn believes nothing goes according to plan in investing. Amongst his tips will be the need to keep investing as compounding brings significant rewards, why share market investments should focus only on the top 50 companies, that property investment is all about timing and the importance to location, location, location.

“The West Coast had 35 years of recession and Coasters are not use to investing. It’s been outsiders that saw the market turn here and come in to make the lion’s share of the money.” According to Kokshoorn, that needs to change.

Also covered in the presentation will be the Mayor’s views on the future of Greymouth’s CBD.

Members of the public interested in joining the property investors group and attend the presentation can contact the chairperson Linda Calder on 03 768 7183.
