President's report to the Communications Meeting 2008

Since the 2007 Communications meeting the following has happened with the West Coast Property Investors’ Association…

Several members attended and thoroughly enjoyed the NZPIF Conference in Christchurch. The West Coast PIA was excited to win the Harry Lawson Trophy.

We held “An Evening with Martin Hawes” at Greymouth’s Regent Theatre on Thursday 8th November 2007. Martin spoke about investment and planning for the future. The evening was a success with over 200 people attending and a profit of approximately $1500. It was a great night with very positive feedback from sponsors and attendees, but unfortunately has not generated any new members.

During the first few months of 2008, Wayne Marriott from Tenancy Services had held a session in Greymouth fo rnew landlords, and Pip McArtney of Inland Revenue presented a session on tax implications when selling property.

In recent months the West Coast Property Investors’ Association has struggled with falling meeting attendances. This has raised the question of what to do for the future?
  • Disband
  • Become a sub-branch of Canterbury PIA
  • Continue
On the 12th of June 2008 the AGM was held and there was support for the Branch to continue. There will be some changes including a new meeting schedule (first Wednesday of every second month), a more casual format and reduced subscriptions with the choice of not receiving the magazine. These measures have been adopted to encourage new members to join. We will review the situation again in a few months’ time.

A keen core of members will be attending the NZPIF conference in Rotorua in October.
